The Republican Liberty Caucus Endorses Allen Chesser II

Melbourne, FL – The Republican Liberty Caucus is proud to endorse Allen Chesser II for North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District. His campaign is centered around three fundamental principles: faith, family, and freedom. “I believe in principles, and I believe that principles require action. So, not only do I have a belief pattern, but I believe it is incumbent upon me to take action to thereby show people principles. Principles without action are just rhetoric.” Chesser is combat veteran, law enforcement officer, and a self described Constitutional Conservative.

He’s committed to not only fight to keep government operating within its Constitutional bounds but also to bring term limits to Congress. He cites the ineffectiveness of Congressional leaders as a major factor in his decision to run for office. He will bring his principled time tested leadership experience with him should the people of North Carolina elect him to be their congressman. The Republican Liberty Caucus supports candidates who adhere to principles and act upon them. We encourage Republicans to help elect Allen Chesser.

Republican Liberty Caucus Endorses Steve Lonegan For Congressional District 5 in New Jersey

Melbourne, FL – The Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) has endorsed Steve Lonegan for New Jersey Congressional District 5.

“The RLC is excited to endorse Steve Lonegan for New Jersey Congressional District 5,” said Matt Nye, Republican Liberty Caucus National Chairman. “He is a fiscal conservative who has shown that he can get things done.”

The RLC endorsement of Lonegan was made through a two-stage process. The Republican Liberty Caucus Candidate Committee screened Steve Lonegan’s candidacy first, and then recommended endorsement to the RLC National Board.

“Steve’s time as Mayor of Bogota, New Jersey and his continued fight for the taxpayers of New Jersey has shown his dedication to fighting for fiscal restraint and limited government,” Nye said. “Candidates that follow through on their promises once elected are rare, and should be rewarded when they do so.”

We encourage all who value the free market, a strong constitutional military, true health care reform, the protection of civil liberties, and common sense government reform to support his campaign.

REPUBLICAN LIBERTY CAUCUS APPLAUDS SENATOR RAND PAUL’S EFFORTS TO RESTORE FISCAL SANITY IN WASHINGTON DC

MELBOURNE, FL -Last week Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) issued a video statement via social media. In the video he said that, according to Senate rules, if the leadership and/or the Budget Committee did not submit a budget plan for 2019, he would introduce one himself.

Paul went on to say that when Republicans were elected they were expected to keep their word, work to rein in spending, shrink government, cut the deficit, and to put forward a plan to balance the budget. He later tweeted his proposal would balance the budget within five years and would include “spending cuts across the board” including welfare and entitlement reforms that would “bring our fiscal house in order.”

Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) National Chair Matt Nye praised Paul for his efforts.

“In order to get a handle on spending, we must see a return to regular order and Congress must pass a real budget,” Nye said. “Passing a balanced budget should be a basic and routine responsibility of the federal government, yet we haven’t had a balanced budget since 2001.”

This is not the first time Senator Paul has called for fiscal responsibility. In January 2017, Senator Paul issued a similar statement and plan. He spoke on the Senate floor for nearly 10 minutes explaining his plan. The proposal was rejected by a 14-83 vote. His speech can be viewed at –

It’s been more than a year since then, and despite Republican control of all three houses, the country’s fiscal crisis has only grown worse with the passage of the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill last month.

“The most recent spending bill was a betrayal of the voters who gave Republicans control of Congress and the White House,” said Matt Nye, RLC National Chairman. “We encourage all Republicans to keep their campaign promises, and to vote in accordance with the basic Republican principles of less government, lower taxes and more personal freedom.”

The senator expressed his support for the RLC at the luncheon and him and Mr. Snitker had a great conversation with other guests of the luncheon on policy and the climate in Washington DC.

We look forward to working with Senator Paul on legislative issues soon.

Ethics complaints against Brevard commissioners not ‘politically motivated’

So far this year three elected officials have stipulated to, and paid fines for, ethics violations regarding their Form 6 financial disclosures.

The violations for County Commissioners Jim Barfield and Curt Smith stemmed from multiple annual Form 6 filings they made as elected officials. West Melbourne Councilwoman Andrea Young’s violation stemmed from a Form 6 filing she made while a candidate in 2015.

I filed the complaints against Barfield and Smith.

Early last year newly-elected Commissioner John Tobia attempted to establish a lobbyist registration ordinance based on one in place for the state Legislature. During the discussion of the item, Smith belittled Tobia’s proposal and went out of his way to boast about how ethical he and the other commissioners were. Smith derided the proposed ordinance as “a solution in search of a problem.”

Smith failed to mention he and Barfield received significant campaign donations from local lobbyists. The ordinance failed to pass, with Barfield, Smith and Commissioner Rita Pritchett voting against.

It is one thing to vote against something you don’t agree with. When you go out of your way to belittle a fellow commissioner who is only trying to do right by his constituents, holding yourself out as a sterling example of ethical behavior, you better make sure your own house is in order.

Barfield and Smith, as well as local radio talk show host Bill Mick, have called my filing of the complaints “politically motivated.” Mick went so far as to call me Tobia’s “lackey.” He apparently forgets I filed an ethics complaint against Tobia during his last campaign for state representative. The Commission on Ethics found the complaint without merit.

Dismissing a charge as “politically motivated” seems to be a popular refrain from elected officials who’ve broken the law. Former Clerk of Courts Mitch Needelman made the same claim in the BlueWare scandal. Any complaint, comment or utterance by anyone regarding anything having to do with any political position may be construed as political, but that does not make the complaint false.

The disrespect, hypocrisy and hubris displayed by Smith at the meeting about the lobbyist ordinance drove my complaint. The notion the complainant makes the complaint less valid turns the notion of objective law on its head. Form 6 financial disclosures exist to create transparency for the voters. Disclosure statutes exist to ensure elected officials comply. The merit of any complaint is determined by the Commission on Ethics, which conducts a thorough investigation and bases its decision on facts and Florida statutes, not political opinion.

Both county commissioners filed incorrect reports two years in a row. This is more than simple clerical error – it is a pattern of disregard for the rules they swore an oath to follow.

The voters deserve to know these elected officials can’t or won’t accurately file the reports required, and the complaint process and subsequent media coverage is how the voters find out they aren’t following the rules.

Matt Nye is a Republican candidate for Florida House District 52 covering central Brevard County. He’s running against GOP Rep. Thad Altman.

REPUBLICAN LIBERTY CAUCUS SUPPORTS NATIONWIDE SECOND AMENDMENT RALLIES

MELBOURNE, FL – The Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) is asking all members and supporters to attend the nationwide rallies in support of the Second Amendment, hosted by the National Constitutional Coalition of Patriotic Americans.

The rallies are scheduled to take place in every state capitol simultaneously at 2pm EDT on Saturday, April 14, 2018.

“Our second amendment rights are clearly under attack in the wake of the Parkland shooting,” said Matt Nye, RLC National Chair. “Despite the repeated claims that ‘no one is coming for your guns’ and ‘no one is going to get rid of the Second Amendment’, the number of individuals and groups pushing for those very things is growing at an alarming rate.”

At the recent “March for Our Lives”, an anti-gun speaker proudly exclaimed that if given an inch, they would take a mile. A former United States Supreme Court Justice has called for the outright repeal of the Second Amendment. Florida has passed a bill increasing the minimum age to purchase a rifle to 21 and imposing a three-day waiting period for all gun sales.

“School officials and law enforcement had numerous opportunities to prevent the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School from unfolding, yet they failed to act,” Nye said. “The idea that more government intervention is the answer – that we should punish law-abiding gun-owners for the failures of government bureaucrats, law enforcement and the sins of a psychotic killer – is simply perverse.”

“We must show our support for the Second Amendment and the Constitution, while educating others about them,” Nye said. “We hope you will join us at your state capitol to do both on April 14th – complacency is not an option.”
