DULUTH, GA – The Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) has endorsed Senator David Shafer for Lieutenant Governor in Georgia. Shafer currently serves as the 68th President Pro Tempore of the Georgia Senate, a post to which he has been re-elected twice.
“The RLC is excited to endorse Senator Shafer for Lieutenant Governor,” said Matt Nye, National Chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus. “He is a fiscal conservative who has shown that he can get things done. He led the fight to amend the Georgia Constitution to cap the state income tax and he re-wrote Georgia law to provide for zero based budgeting of all state spending.”
The RLC endorsement of Shafer was made through a two-stage process. Members of the Republican Liberty Caucus from Georgia screened Shafer’s candidacy first, and then recommended his endorsement to the RLC National Board.
“As a business owner and an elected official with a proven track record of fiscal conservatism, we are confident Senator Shafer is exactly who the state of Georgia needs in this position,” Nye said. “Candidates who follow through on their promises once elected are rare, but Senator Shafer’s 15 year legislative record shows that he can be trusted.”
Senator Shafer is a previous recipient of the RLC Champion of Liberty Award.
A graduate of the University of Georgia, Senator Shafer currently resides in Duluth with his wife Lee and daughter Ellie. His stepson J.W. is also a graduate of the University of Georgia.
